A Strategic Milestone for the Moho Complex

Energy major TotalEnergies has announced a significant new hydrocarbon discovery at the Moho G structure, located within the prolific Moho license offshore the Republic of Congo. This discovery is a critical step in the nation’s ambitious goal to reach a production capacity of 500,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The project is a collaborative effort led by TotalEnergies (63.5% operator) alongside Trident Energy and the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC).

Technical Details of the Discovery

The exploration at the Moho G structure revealed a substantial hydrocarbon column, highlighting the continued potential of Congo’s mature fields:

• Reservoir Quality: The discovery encountered a column of approximately 160 meters in high-quality Albian reservoirs.
• Resource Potential: Combined with the previous Moho F discovery, the area features estimated recoverable resources of 100 billion barrels.
• Infrastructure Synergy: The find is located near existing production hubs, specifically the Alima and Likouf FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) facilities, which have a combined capacity of 90,000 bpd.

Infrastructure-Led Exploration

TotalEnergies is utilizing a “smarter and faster” strategy by focusing on infrastructure-led exploration. By leveraging existing FPSOs, the company can utilize cost-effective “tie-backs,” allowing for accelerated commercialization and improved project economics. This follows a $500 million investment committed in 2025 to expand the Moho Nord complex.

According to NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), Congo is proving that value can be unlocked by maximizing existing assets through strategic partnerships and stable policy environments.
