Ghana’s Digital TV Future: Ministry Receives Landmark DTT Committee Report for Sustainable Broadcasting

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation officially received the final report from the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Committee. This marks a crucial milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the long-term sustainability, robust governance, and overall effectiveness of Ghana’s digital broadcasting platform.
Honourable Minister Samuel Nartey George, MP, established the Committee after extensive stakeholder engagements. Its purpose was to conduct an independent review of Ghana’s DTT platform. The Committee’s mandate included thoroughly examining the operational, financial, and governance frameworks that support the platform, and providing evidence-based recommendations to inform future policy decisions.
This comprehensive review became essential due to emerging concerns regarding the platform’s long-term sustainability, infrastructure management, governance structures, and affordability for broadcasters.
During its work, the Committee engaged extensively with key institutions throughout Ghana’s broadcasting ecosystem. These consultations involved the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), National Media Commission (NMC), K-Net, and various other industry stakeholders. This broad engagement underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive and collaborative policymaking.
Upon receiving the report, the Honourable Minister hailed the occasion as “an important milestone in our collective efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability, efficiency and effective governance of Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform.” He emphasized that this process vividly demonstrates what can be achieved “when government and industry stakeholders engage in open, transparent dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to finding practical solutions to national challenges.”
The Minister further stressed that the report signifies “the beginning of the next phase of the Government’s efforts to strengthen the governance and sustainability of the Digital Terrestrial Television platform.” He assured stakeholders that the Ministry would meticulously study the Committee’s findings and maintain ongoing consultations before making any implementation decisions.
He warmly commended the Committee and all participating institutions for their dedication and collaborative spirit, highlighting that their diligent work has provided the government with “a strong foundation on which to make informed policy decisions.”
The Ministry extends its sincere appreciation to the Chairperson and members of the Committee. Gratitude is also expressed to all stakeholder institutions whose invaluable expertise, unwavering commitment, and collaborative spirit made this vital national assignment possible.
As Ghana continues its ambitious digital transformation journey, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to building resilient, transparent, and sustainable communications infrastructure. This infrastructure is vital for serving the public interest and supporting the continued growth of the country’s dynamic broadcasting sector.
