Educational Expansion in Eritrea: Keren Sub-Zone Boosts School Count to 79

Educational infrastructure in the Keren sub-zone has received a notable boost, expanding from 68 to 79 schools as a result of collaborative initiatives between the local population and the state, according to recent sector updates.

The milestone was highlighted during a comprehensive review meeting evaluating the progress of academic operations for the 2025–2026 school year. Addressing educators and local stakeholders, Mr. Yosief Okbaselasie, who heads the sub-zone’s education office, emphasized that the ultimate purpose of these institutions extends beyond academics to shaping capable and versatile young citizens. He called upon teachers and school administrations to diligently execute this mandate while strictly adhering to the strategic directives and frameworks laid out by the Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, Mr. Yosief explained that the evaluation gathering was intentionally designed to safeguard past victories while confronting ongoing obstacles within classrooms head-on.

The strides made across the sub-zone drew praise from Mr. Kiflai Andemicael, the head of the education office for the wider Anseba Region. He urged stakeholders to optimize the management of available capital, human assets, and instructional hours to elevate academic performance even further.

Echoing the sentiment of collective responsibility, Ms. Letenigus Abraha, speaking on behalf of the Keren city administration, stressed that strengthening the educational ecosystem requires active engagement from the broader community and development partners rather than resting solely on school staff. She also reaffirmed the municipality’s steadfast commitment to backing these educational endeavors.
