EPIC-Africa has officially launched the African Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Awards 2026, marking a revolutionary shift in how we recognize changemakers across the continent. Announced on January 19, this groundbreaking initiative moves beyond traditional recognition models to celebrate the power and ingenuity of African communities themselves.
A New Era of Recognition
For too long, awards have honored organizations with the most visibility and resources, often reflecting external definitions of success that don’t align with local realities. The 2026 African CSO Awards are calling time on this top-down approach. Instead, the awards explicitly celebrate Community-Led Development (CLD)—a model that puts power and resources directly in the hands of those closest to the challenges.

Supporters recognize those building the capacity and resilience of frontline actors, strengthening the entire movement for change.
Enablers celebrate institutions shaping the policy and research environments that allow local action to flourish.
Emerging Leaders uncover next-generation champions under 35 driving bold initiatives and bringing fresh perspectives to African development.
The fifth category offers an additional opportunity to nominate amazing everyday individual heroes—recognizing the people whose names may not be widely known but whose impact transforms communities.
How to Participate
The application window is now open and remarkably accessible. Entries are accepted from all African-rooted CSOs, regardless of size or sector. Submissions are accepted in both English and French, ensuring language isn’t a barrier to participation.
