Morocco Completes Upgrade of 1,400 Health Centers in Major Healthcare Milestone

Strengthening Primary Care Nationwide

In a significant boost to the Kingdom’s medical infrastructure, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch announced the completion of the first phase of a national rehabilitation program. The initiative has successfully modernized and equipped 1,400 primary healthcare centers across all 12 regions of Morocco.

The announcement was made during the launch of services at the Aït Ourir community hospital and the Tazart rural health center in Al Haouz. This project is a centerpiece of the government’s strategy to bring high-quality medical services closer to citizens, particularly those living in remote and rural areas.

Strategic Investment and Scale

The modernization program represents a massive financial and logistical undertaking:

• Total Investment: Over MAD 6.43 billion has been deployed to reconstruct and equip these facilities.
• Population Impact: The upgrades directly benefit more than 20 million citizens across urban and rural landscapes.
• Regional Equity: The initiative aims to reduce healthcare disparities between provinces, ensuring that every citizen has access to modern diagnostic and treatment tools regardless of their location.

Future Roadmap: Target of 3,000 Facilities

The government is not stopping at 1,400 centers. Aziz Akhannouch outlined an ambitious second phase of the program designed to expand the network even further:

• 2026 Goal: An additional 500 centers are slated for rehabilitation within the current year.
• Long-term Vision: The program aims to include 1,600 more centers in its next steps, bringing the total number of rehabilitated facilities to 3,000 nationwide.

Enhancing the Healthcare Continuum

By focusing on primary healthcare centers, the government is strengthening the “first step” of the medical journey. Modernizing these local points of contact reduces the pressure on large university hospitals and regional centers, allowing for more efficient patient management and specialized care delivery.

Accompanied by Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tehraoui, Akhannouch emphasized that these upgrades are essential for building a resilient national health system that promotes social protection and equitable access for all Moroccans.
