Eswatini MSME Roadshow: Impact Investors Commit to Local Enterprises

A Landmark Shift in Investment Strategy
From March 3 to 5, 2026, the Kingdom of Eswatini successfully hosted its first-ever MSME Investment Roadshow. The event moved the nation beyond theoretical potential into direct commercial action, as international impact investors from South Africa, Belgium, and Ghana conducted intensive site visits and “open-book” evaluations of Eswatini’s most promising enterprises.
The roadshow was a collaborative effort convened by the European Union and the International Trade Centre (ITC), in partnership with the Government of Eswatini.
Investment-Ready Enterprises in the Spotlight
Five key companies hosted the delegation, representing a diverse cross-section of Eswatini’s growing private sector:
- Luna Hair & Body: Premium personal care and cosmetics.
- Eswatini Foods: Agricultural processing and food supply.
- Beef Boys: Meat processing and livestock value chain.
- Ngwenya Glass: Renowned sustainable manufacturing using recycled glass.
- Black Mamba: Global award-winning artisanal chili sauces.
Concrete Results and Capital Flows
The roadshow targeted funding needs ranging from $50,000 to $3 million, focusing on “meeting small businesses where they are.”
- Immediate Commitment: One company received an initial investment commitment immediately following its site visit.
- Pipeline Development: Several other enterprises entered early-stage discussions for capital injection.
- Regional Interest: Multiple investors confirmed plans to return, with some looking to partner with local financial institutions to deploy even larger amounts of capital.
Alternative Financing Instruments
Building on the MSME Conference of November 2025, the roadshow emphasized modern financial tools that bypass traditional banking hurdles:
- Blended Finance: Combining public and private funds to de-risk investments.
- Revenue-Based Financing: Repayment terms tied to a company’s gross income.
- Digital Credit Scoring: Leveraging data to assess creditworthiness for businesses lacking formal collateral.
Strategic Importance: Addressing Inequality
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo framed the roadshow as a vital tool for economic justice. He noted that while wealth in Eswatini has historically been concentrated, the development of MSMEs is the primary solution to broadening economic participation and reducing inequality.
Principal Secretary Ambassador Melusi Masuku reinforced this by positioning Eswatini as a “haven of peace and stability,” signaling to the global market that the Kingdom is officially open for business and ready for sustainable, high-impact partnerships.
