One of the world’s largest container ships and the biggest under the French flag, the vessel’s arrival at the port’s TC2 container terminal signifies a major milestone, underscoring Tanger Med’s robust infrastructure and its growing importance in the evolving landscape of sustainable maritime trade.

The LNG-powered CMA CGM Notre-Dame, boasting an impressive capacity of 24,212 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), is a testament to the shipping industry’s push towards decarbonization. Commissioned in May 2026, this next-generation behemoth is the first in a series of ten French-flagged 24,000-TEU vessels. Its journey to Tanger Med followed inaugural calls at key European ports including Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp, after its christening ceremony in Le Havre, France.

Operating on the critical French Asia Line (FAL 3), which connects major Asian and European ports, the CMA CGM Notre-Dame will now include Tanger Med as a regular stop. The visit further deepens the strategic partnership between the CMA CGM Group and Tanger Med. The seamless docking operation at the Eurogate-operated TC2 terminal received high praise from Captain Marine-Caroline Guillou of the CMA CGM Notre-Dame, who described it as “a textbook maneuver” and commended the port’s “extraordinary pilotage service” for ensuring safe berthing.
